Join us at the library for Son of Virginia, Father of Missouri: The Political Battles of Edward Bates, Lincoln’s Attorney General, a fascinating talk with historian Dr. Mark Neels.
In conjunction with the release of a new biography of Edward Bates, Dr. Neels explores Bates’s conservative political philosophy—shaped by his Virginia roots and his role as a founding figure in Missouri—and how those values influenced his work as a key advisor to President Abraham Lincoln during one of the most pivotal eras in American history.
